By Reg Cribb - Starring Max Gillies and Samuel Johnson.
A suburban hermit’s life unravels when confronted by his own dark secrets in this suspenseful drama.
Under an ochre sky something happened at Mt Ragged. The incident inspired celebrated bush poet Daniel Gartrell’s most analysed poem. It is missing its final verse, and the events that occurred at Mt Ragged, not to mention the poet himself, are a mystery. Now an enigma, Gartrell (Max Gillies) lives as a recluse in the suburbs, his only contact is with his daughter.
Gartrell is at home, thinking very oblique thoughts when an emerging actor (Samuel Johnson) knocks on his door. Ambitious and optimistic, he has been cast to play Gartrell in a biographical movie, and in his research for the role, is ready for anything. But if he wants to know where Gartrell’s poetry comes from and understand his state of mind when he writes, he must in a sense become him. Gartrell leads him on a merry chase, evading inquiries and playing unhinged mind games.
This is a play that offers something for everyone. Audience are sure to experience a journey that stretches their senses, hits their funny bone and delivers a poignant message for all. An accessible yet edgy play that invites audiences to sit back and reflect on how our secrets and our pasts can shape who we are.
