Hausmusik concert at Cooran: Luscious sounds
Dear friends of hausmusik, we are very excited to present an exciting young musical duo at a concert on Sunday 16th of November at the Cooran School of Arts Hall. You will have the opportunity to hear for yourselves why pianist Suzanna Hlinka and her cellist husband Christoph Blickling are receiving rave reviews in Europe for their passionate music making and creative programming.
Now based in Bonn, Germany, Suzanna and Christoph met as first year students at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music a decade ago. While both musicians have busy solo careers, the interplay of two prodigious talents who know each other intimately lends a special magic to their duo performances. Discussing the secret of their marital and musical partnership, Christoph remarks, ‘Two strong personalities, two different sets of ideas – at the end of the day, though, you have to reach a compromise.’
For the hausmusik concert, Suzanna Hlinka and Christoph Blickling will present solo and duo works for piano and cello spanning five centuries of repertoire, from the early baroque era to contemporary Australian works. The programme includes Cassao’s arrangement of Frescobaldi’s Toccata for cello and piano, de Falla’s Suite populaire espagnole, solo piano works by Rachmaninoff, solo cello and piano works by Australian composer Carl Vine, and Martinu’s Variations on a theme of Rossini.
