Peter Houghton's brilliant show was critically acclaimed and a huge hit in Melbourne in 2006 and 2007 and was awarded two prestigious Green Room Awards for performance and for best new play. The Pitch is set in the very humble apartment of aspiring screenwriter Walter Weinerman just before he is about to sell his screenplay to an all-powerful Hollywood film industry panel.
We watch as Walter desperately practices pitching his film concept. It's his one shot at the big time and there's a lot at stake. It's a chance for immortality. It's a chance to prove to the world that he's got what it takes and maybe it's a chance to win back his girlfriend who dumped him. Peter Houghton's The Pitch is one hilarious antidote for the many clichéd and overdone Hollywood blockbusters that we are all familiar with.
Critical Stages organises and manages tours of high quality independent theatre productions in Australia. Each production chosen to be part of Critical Stages is literally one in a hundred hand picked in a detailed curatorial process. All shows selected must have had a lengthy sell out season at an established theatre, significant critical and industry acclaim and must be of the highest professional standard.
TRAVELLING NORTH - by David Williamson

time: 7pm bar for 8pm start
price: $39/35
bookings: 5455 4455 or book online

Before the sea-changers and grey nomads began heading north, David Williamson wrote his gentle comedy of Frank and Frances, two retirees who decide to sell up and spend their final years together in the tropics.
Their respective adult children are horrified at the prospect of Frank and Frances uprooting the family home and following their romantic dreams so late in life.
But things don't go as smoothly as planned, forcing Frank and Frances, their friends and families to confront the realities of their new life.
“While the story does have a serious side and looks at relationships between older people, it does naturally have much comedy, as expected from Williamson, and is I feel a piece that many mature people can and will relate to.” John Gunn, 3CR’s “Curtain Up”.
Starring: Terence Donovan (Neighbours), Sandy Gore, Lewis Fiander, Ross Thompson, Kate Cole, Shelley Lauman & Elizabeth Slattery.
Directed by: Bruce Myles

SHORT FILM FESTIVAL PUTS DIRECTORS AT MERCY OF WORLD WIDE AUDIENCE
This year’s festival exceeds expectations with 429 entries from 42 countries. The resulting 12 films are set to screen 295 times in 115 cities in one week – from as far north as Saint Petersburg, Russia to as far south as St. Kilda in Melbourne, Australia – during the last week of September.
The best short film and winner of the 2008 Manhattan Short Film Festival will be determined by the global theater-going public. After each screening, audience members can vote for their favorite film. The votes will be tallied and sent directly to the Manhattan Short headquarters where the winner will be announced in New York City at 10 p.m. on Sunday, September 28, 2008.
In 2007 three of the finalists went on to screen at the Sundance Film Festival in which one won, another was later nominated for a BAFTA, while another went on to receive an Oscar Nomination. “We are expecting similar results if not better with this year’s crop. The group’s sound is driven by pianist Sean Foran’s beautiful flow on the keys, teamed with John Parker’s expansive dynamic and timbral range on percussion and Patrick Marchisella’s visceral touch on the double bass, exuding emotion sweetly and succinctly. With two acclaimed albums released, “now for the free” and “In is In” the trio gathered acclaim in Australia and Internationally, performing at the Wangaratta Jazz Festival, Woodford Folk Festival, Melbourne International Jazz Festival, the Calgary International Jazz Festival, Canada and Kutchan Jazz Festival, Japan among others. In the newest addition to the band’s current catalogue “Variations” finds a confident group of musicians who are truly creating some very special moments on this captivating record.

FIRE - Mike Stewart and Scott Carter
date: sun 19th oct 2008
time: 5.30pm for 6pm start
price: $15
bookings:5455 4455 or book online
genre: surf / film / bodyboarding
From the creator of "Bodyboarding - enough said" and "The Inside" comes the most anticipated film of all time.
FIRE in Mike's own words: "Ten years in the making, mind blowing imagery combines with thought provoking messages in what is assumed to be a revolutionary film experience..."
In partnership with Scott Carter, whose 1996 film "The Inside" remains the definite statement of body boarding, Stewart is endeavoring to capture his career and his philosophy in a single film - without words. The images are so striking that film has already (in its unfinished form) won an award at the 2005 Cinema Paradise Film Festival in Honolulu. The film shows Stewart at his best in spots around the world. Like Stewart's incredibly breat taking performance at Teahupo'o on the 11th of September 2005, a day well documented in Shane Dorian's "wave of a lifetime". It was huge, it was perfect. And Mike Stewart was out there alone.

So dig deep into your closet and find those wonderful outfits you used to love. Now is your chance to wear them out again.
The popular "Jazz Factory" from Noosa draws its inspiration from an earlier era of love songs, rip roaring jazz and great fun times. They use a wide range of material with over 600 songs in their repertoire. If you like Louis Armstrong, Irving Berlin and Duke Ellington, you will love this band! Three of the band members sing so you won't, go short of some great vocals. One of the great delights of this band is the clean sound and harmonic balance achieved by the musician's compatibility, no doubt partially as a result of the many gigs played together over the last 13 years.
The "Jazz Factory" is in great demand to perform at festivals and functions from the Gold Coast to Townsville. Hence the boys are likely to pop up anywhere, as far a field as Sydney, Alice Springs or The Hunter Valley.
